Well firstly well done for actually having spelling and punctuation in the right place. Better than I can normally do so I will give the nod there. What you don’t however realise princess is that your parents will of scrimped, saved and made sacrifices so you can live in a (relatively) free country, with free healthcare in a decent area where the chances of your being shot are lower than a snakes bum-hole.

Its something people in the hosting industry have heard 100 times before. “Why do you want me to pay for support? Why don’t you do everything relating to my server?”. This is something as a VPS and cloud provider we hear every day. By default most mid-range, low priced cloud options (including VPS and dedicated) come with a basic level of support, called unmanaged. So what does unmanaged mean? That you are totally on your own?

Well No. If something is unmanaged it means that generally the provider will look after network issues, hardware issues and rebooting the system. They won’t look after your websites, the security of your VPS or your pet dog whilst you are on holiday. A provider refusing help with a 3rd party script that was written by drunk monkeys shouldn’t be taken personally. Its not down to a the fact that we don’t agree with your website content, such as “Why My Little Pony Promotes Genetic Cloning”, or that the technician is actually avoiding doing any work “to play computer games rather than do work”. Both of which I’ve heard as reasons (or variations thereof more than once).

Its simply down to you get what you signed up for when you agreed to the Terms of Service (TOS). You did read it didn’t you? It never hurts to ask pre-sales what the default level of support is. A provider always tries to set customer expectations about what they are buying however you should always research what you are getting before you start.

If you need more support that a root login then you might want to ask about upgrading to a fully managed service or maybe a pay per ticket response. That way more people can enjoy your views on “My Little Pony”.
